Kitchen Remodeling Projects

A kitchen remodel is one of the most-used rooms in the home — and one of the more structurally complex to renovate well. Here's a look at what these projects typically involve and what homeowners should think through before materials are chosen.

KITCHENMesquite, Tx

Mesquite Kitchen and Bathroom Remodel

Luxury vinyl plank flooring, trim, base mould, painted cabinet, painted walls, tile in the bathroom

What these projects usually involve

  • Cabinet replacement or refacing — including layout changes that open up sightlines or add storage
  • Countertop installation (quartz, granite, butcher block, or laminate)
  • Tile backsplash and new flooring (LVP and tile are common in North Texas kitchens)
  • Sink, faucet, and plumbing rough-in adjustments
  • Appliance relocation and new electrical circuits where needed
  • Lighting upgrades including under-cabinet and recessed fixtures

The reality behind the walls

Demo day often reveals what years of normal use — and previous shortcuts — leave behind. Common hidden issues we uncover in kitchen projects:

  • Rotten subfloor under the sink or dishwasher area — often invisible until cabinets come out
  • Water-damaged cabinet boxes from slow drip leaks over months or years
  • Outdated or improperly grounded electrical — missing GFCI protection near water sources is common in older DFW homes
  • Previous patch work that disguised root problems without actually fixing them

Plan ahead before materials are chosen

Cabinet style

Shaker, flat-panel, or raised panel — this choice affects the entire feel of the space and should be decided before any other finish selections.

Countertop material

Quartz for durability and low maintenance; granite for natural variation; butcher block for warmth in specific zones. Each has different sealing and care requirements.

Flooring transition

Choose a material that connects well to adjacent rooms without awkward height differences or jarring visual breaks.

Island vs. peninsula

Islands need clear traffic paths on all sides — at least 42 inches. A peninsula may work better in tighter layouts and keeps storage connected to the wall run.

Lighting layers

Overhead, under-cabinet, and task lighting together eliminate shadows that a single ceiling fixture creates. Plan circuits before drywall is closed.

Our no-surprises approach

When demo reveals unexpected conditions — damage, improper prior work, or structural issues — we stop and show you exactly what we found. We then present clear options before any additional work begins:

  1. 1.Safe minimum correction — the smallest fix that meets code and prevents the issue from worsening
  2. 2.Solid long-term standard — the repair we would do in our own home, built to last without revisiting
  3. 3.Upgraded future-proof option — the version that handles the next 20+ years without question

You choose. We execute. No pressure, no surprises.
