Flooring Projects

Flooring Projects

Flooring affects how every room looks, sounds, and feels — and the right choice depends on traffic, moisture exposure, and how the space connects to the rest of the home. Here's what flooring projects typically involve in North Texas homes.

FLOORINGGarland, Tx

Cecy Living Room

We remodeled Cecy's home. This is the living room with luxury vinyl plank flooring and painting the wood panel and trim.

What these projects usually involve

  • Removal of existing flooring — tile, carpet, laminate, or hardwood
  • Subfloor inspection and repair before new material is installed
  • Luxury vinyl plank (LVP), hardwood, tile, or carpet installation
  • Transition strips at doorways and room connections
  • Baseboard removal and reinstallation or replacement

The reality behind the walls

Demo day often reveals what years of normal use — and previous shortcuts — leave behind. Common hidden issues we uncover in flooring projects:

  • Moisture under slab-on-grade tile — common in Texas soil conditions and often undetected until the old floor is removed
  • Soft or damaged subfloor from previous water intrusion that must be repaired before new flooring can be installed correctly
  • Uneven concrete that requires self-leveling compound before LVP or hardwood will lay flat without flexing or clicking at the seams

Plan ahead before materials are chosen

Material for the space

LVP is the most practical choice for most areas — waterproof, durable, and comfortable underfoot. Hardwood adds warmth but requires humidity control. Tile suits wet areas and high-heat spaces.

Plank direction

Running planks toward the main light source or along the length of the room generally makes spaces feel larger and more intentional.

Transitions between rooms

Matching transitions and consistent flooring across an open plan creates a clean, connected look. Decide this before materials are ordered.

Baseboard style

Taller baseboards (4.5" or 5.5") look more finished and can cover minor wall-to-floor gaps left by settling. Painted white is the most flexible finish.

Underlayment

Good underlayment reduces sound transmission and adds underfoot comfort — especially noticeable over concrete slab in Texas homes.

Our no-surprises approach

When demo reveals unexpected conditions — damage, improper prior work, or structural issues — we stop and show you exactly what we found. We then present clear options before any additional work begins:

  1. 1.Safe minimum correction — the smallest fix that meets code and prevents the issue from worsening
  2. 2.Solid long-term standard — the repair we would do in our own home, built to last without revisiting
  3. 3.Upgraded future-proof option — the version that handles the next 20+ years without question

You choose. We execute. No pressure, no surprises.
